Worldly Wiseman: How camest thou by this burden at first?
Christian: By reading this book in my hand.
Let me tell you about my burden. The burden I received by reading the Bible. This burden I believe should be the burden of every Christian. Just how did this burden come to me?
I was saved at an early age and lived the life of a normal Christian kid. It wasn’t till I was around the age of twenty-one that this burden showed up in my life. It came from the book of Isaiah chapter six.
“Whom shall I send, and who will go for us? Then said I, Here am I; send me.”
This is my burden, the “people of unclean lips” all around us with no one to tell them. I said at the age of twenty-one, here am I; send me. Have you said this? We are commanded to go and tell. So then why don’t we go and why don’t we tell?
So thats my burden. Whats yours?
“Is that near New York City?”
Well it is New York City. What do you know about Staten Island?
Staten Island is 470 thousand people. Thats more than double the size of Birmingham, Alabama’s largest city. In fact If Staten Island was an independent city it would be larger than many major cities. Staten Island is larger than Atlanta, Cincinnati, Cleveland, Miami, New Orleans, St. Louis and so many other major cities. The sad part about this is there is only one independent baptist church. In fact less than 2% evangelical of any kind.
We are on deputation to start a church in Staten Island. Please pray we can reach the city soon. Consider partnering with us as we go.
“And he said unto them, Go ye into all the world, and preach the gospel to every creature.”
Today I have been calling churches to share our burden and ministry with the pastor and possible the church. I am humbled by this process. I think to myself, what do I have to say that is so important this church should have me come and tell them about? Why would they listen to me? Its then that I realize that its not what I have to say that they need to hear. Its not my burden or my ministry, its God’s. I am not calling a pastor to beg foe money so I don’t have to have a job. I have a mission from the King. I know a place, in our country, that is not hearing the gospel. Five hundred thousand people with very little light of the gospel. Peace be unto you: as my Father hath sentme, even so send I you. John 20:21. We have our orders, lets go!
One of the best resources I have ever seen on NYC. This book will open your eyes to what is in NYC. I think every pastor should see this book.
1 Corinthians 16:9 “For a greatdoor and effectual is opened unto me, and there are many adversaries.”
What kind of Christian are we? Do dwell on the first part of the verse(1 Cor 16:9) or the second? Do we run around thinking of every hypothetical thing that can go wrong? Do we think about how much it will cost, or how much time in our life it will take up? Do we have the “and there are many advisories.” outlook on the church and the work of God?
We need to meditate on the open doors. The Bible calls it “a great door”. Will we run thru it or will we just think of the mean dog out side of the door.
What door do you need to go thru today? What “great door” is before you? What ministry or opportunity do you have? What influence for right can you have? What door is before you?
Make no mistake, the advisory is real. The advisory will be there waiting on you. Remember the door is “great” not the advisory. Be bold for God.
“Expect great things from God. Attempt great things for God.” William Carey
Wow! God has done so much in our life in the last six months. I never would have guest last December that we would be raising support to start a church in Staten Island. Thank you to everyone for your prayers and encouragement. Please pray that God will provide the support we need to reach Staten Island quickly.
